Design

The designs followed the colour scheme of the costume- clashing pink & orange frills. We ended up switching the colours round from this original design, so it became an orange keyboard cover instead of a pink one.

Keyboard cover

The keyboard cover was largely practical, to hide wires & props behind, but to make it fun and belong in the visual world of this show. The crushed velvet fit meant that it wouldn't crease as easily as it would be packed away every day during the Edinburgh Fringe and on tour. The cover is pleated with a straight central panel so that the logo can lay flat. It was attached with heavy duty velcro to the back of the keyboard, covered by the pink ruffles.

Pop-up screen boarders

They needed to be flexible enough to bend around the shape, strong enough to support their own weight and durable enough to withstand being set up & packed down every night on tour. I made a double frill boarder using clashing orange & pink tones (the pink iridescent organza had multiple layers of tulle inside to help it keep shape and colour saturation) that was velcro- backed. I then had to sew patches of velcro around the edge of the screens (couldn't be continuous because it would prevent them from folding away)
